Disability Mental Health

This is our unique focus that serves as a dedicated space in the mental health therapy world. Able Mental Health is proud to provide services for people born with disabilities and/or people who have acquired disabilities throughout their lives. This support extends to people in their circle – such as biological/chosen family, partners, friends & colleagues.

The Accessible Canada Act (2019) defines disability as:

“Any physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication, or sensory impairment or functional limitation that, in interaction with barriers, hinders a person’s full and equal participation in society. This definition includes conditions that are permanent, temporary, or episodic, and those that are not always visible.”

Leveraging Lived Experience

As a proudly disabled clinician, I bring both professional and personal insights to this area of mental health. While your sessions are all about you (and not about your therapist), feel confident knowing your therapist has walked a similar path.

Accessibility in Therapy

Please reach out if you have any accessibility needs during our sessions together. We’re happy to adapt our approach, service delivery, and provide resources in alternative formats to help reduce barriers. Not sure what you need? That’s ok, too. We are happy to explore options together at any point during your therapy journey with us.

Services

I provide Individual Counselling & Psychotherapy for adults (18+) who live in Ontario, Canada.

As a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), my services are covered by most insurance plans. Please check with your health benefits provider and/or reach out if you have any questions.

Equity Program

It is important to me that I do my part to provide equitable access to mental health counselling & psychotherapy. At Able Mental Health, I offer some sponsored and low-cost options for clients who are experiencing significant financial barriers and who do not have access to health benefits coverage. I am happy to help – please contact me for more information.

Live Outside of Ontario?

I am currently holding a waitlist for clients who live outside of Ontario, especially if you or someone you know lives with a limb difference. Please reach out if this applies to you, and let’s figure out how I can support you.

Referral Network

I have a referral network of trusted colleagues who provide services on life issues that fall outside of my area of focus (i.e couples therapy, working with children/youth, etc.). I’m happy to provide a referral if you choose.

Clinical Approach

I use a blend of evidence-based treatment types, depending on the person and their goals in therapy. I often pull from my extensive training in modalities such as:

  • Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

I hold a deep commitment, both professionally and personally, in developing and nurturing ways of knowing as it relates to anti-oppressive practice and cultural safety for the people I work beside. Specifically, this includes ongoing training related to Indigenous cultural safety, supporting neurodiversity, and providing gender-affirming and queer-affirming services. This is an ongoing, continuous and dedicated process of learning and unlearning through both my role as a social worker/psychotherapist and as a human being.
